  • Corporate Social Responsibility is of great importance to us. We know and understand that as a well-established local firm we have responsibilities to the community in which we work and to the wider public community.

In addition, we are committed to treating all of our employees and clients with respect, no matter how they identify or their ethnic or social background.

We are committed to supporting the development of all our employees and improving their quality of life wherever we can. Mercers Solicitors encourages a culture of equality, diversity and inclusion.

The firm has a dynamic environmental policy and strives, wherever possible to have a minimum impact on the environment.

To support the local area wherever possible we use local businesses and suppliers to provide us with goods and services such as printing, maintenance, marketing merchandise, IT support and many more vital areas that keeps Mercers Solicitors running smoothly.

  • We are pleased to be able to support local and national causes and play an active role in fundraising for a variety of charities.

Our main charity partner for the years 2021/22 is the Charlie Waller Trust. We share their vision of a world where people understand and talk openly about depression, where young people know how to maintain wellbeing and where the most appropriate treatment is available to everyone who needs it.

The Charlie Waller Trust, based in Berkshire, was set up by Sir Mark and Lady Waller, in memory of their son Charlie, who sadly took his own life whilst suffering from depression. To the outside world Charlie Waller had everything to live for, a successful career, good friends and a loving family, however in September 1997 Charlie took his own life at the age of 28. He was suffering from depression and no longer had the strength to cope with life. Shortly after this tragic event his family founded The Charlie Waller Memorial Trust.

Money raised by Mercers assists the Charlie Waller Trust to provide education and training to primary health care and other professionals, in identifying and supporting those with depression as well as offering training and self-help resources to universities and colleges to promote resilience and mental wellbeing.

For further information on the Charlie Waller Trust, please visit their website here.

We are also delighted to be involved with grass roots sports in the local community. In autumn 2021 we sponsered both the AFC Henley U15s Henley Hawks, both home and away kits.

In the past Mercers Solicitors has supported a different charity quarterly and have held a variety of fundraising events to raise money for charities including Guide Dogs For The Blind, Cancer Research, Hearing Dogs For The Deaf and the British Heart Foundation.

Peter Hopkins one of Mercers partners completed the London Marathon in 2018, raising over £3,000 for the local Sue Ryder hospice.

Every year we present the Mercers Cup at the Henley Show, of which we are sponsors.

  • The firm is always looking for ways to reduce its carbon footprint and to reduce waste.

We actively encourage recycling with recycling bins placed in every office. We also recycle all of our used printer toners and cartridges. In order to reduce the use of printer toner further we have adopted a paper-light policy encouraging staff to print only when absolutely necessary and to print double-sided where possible, otherwise all documents are held electronically.

We try to minimise the necessity for staff to travel by organising onsite training through webinars and the use of online meeting facilities.

Our environmental policy is reviewed each year and we are constantly looking for ways to be more environmentally friendly.
