The Partners of Mercers are pleased to announce that our charity partner for the years 2020 and 2021 is The Charlie Waller Trust. We will support the Charlie Waller Trust’s vision of a world where people understand and talk openly about depression, where young people know how to maintain wellbeing, and where the most appropriate treatment is available to everyone who needs it.
The Charlie Waller Trust, based in Berkshire, was set up by Sir Mark and Lady Waller, in memory of their son Charlie, who sadly took his own life whilst suffering from depression. To the outside world Charlie Waller had everything to live for, a successful career, good friends and a loving family. In September 1997 Charlie took his own life at the age of 28. He was suffering from depression and no longer had the strength to cope with life. Shortly after this tragic event his family founded The Charlie Waller Memorial Trust.
Money raised by Mercers will enable Charlie Waller Trust to provide education and training to primary health care and other professionals, in identifying and supporting those with depression as well as offering training and self-help resources to universities and colleges to promote resilience and mental wellbeing.
Lady Waller, Head of Fundraising at Charlie Waller Trust said…
“We are enormously grateful to Mercers in Henley for choosing the Charlie Waller Trust as their charity partner this year. Ongoing support from organisations such as this makes a real difference and enables us to teach more schools, universities, FE colleges and workplaces about the importance of mental health.”
“Ensuring young people know how to stay mentally well and talk openly about depression and other mental health difficulties is essential and with Mercers’ support we will be able to increase our work with the local community.”
Paul Stott, Managing Partner at Mercers said…
“Supporting good mental health is tremendously important, and so we are delighted to have the Charlie Waller Trust as our charity partner this year. We are looking forward to raising funds for them so they may continue their excellent work promoting mental wellbeing among young people in educational establishments, the work place and elsewhere.”
From January 2020, Mercers will fundraise in support of The Charlie Waller Trust with our first main event being The Reading Half Marathon. 5 Members of our staff will be running the 13.1mile route through Reading town centre.
