Lasting Powers of Attorney – registration fees set to rise
A Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) is a legal document that allows you to appoint one or more trusted individuals (attorneys) to help you make decisions or to make decisions on your behalf when you are unable to, for example due to illness, an accident, or a lack of capacity.
There are two types of LPA, one relating to property and financial affairs, which allows your attorneys to make decisions about your money and property, and the other relating to health and welfare, which allows decisions about your health and care to be made on your behalf.
The Ministry of Justice has announced that the cost of registering a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) with the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) is set to rise from the 17 November 2025. The current registration fee of £82 per LPA will be increasing to £92.
The fee increase is designed to ensure that the cost of processing LPA applications is more accurately reflected in the fee charged. If you’re considering putting LPAs in place, submitting your application before the November deadline will allow you to benefit from the lower fee of £82.
